Choosing the Right Clothes for Older Kids

Choosing the Right Clothes for Older Kids

Every child grows at their own pace — some faster than others! At Gusti, we know there’s no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” solution when it comes to kids’ clothing. Finding the right size, especially when your child is approaching or surpassing standard size charts, can sometimes feel tricky. This article will help you make the right choice so your child always feels comfortable in their clothes, no matter their shape or size.

Penny’s Example

Let’s take Penny, 12 years old, 160 cm tall and 100 lbs.
At this height, Penny already falls into the larger size range for kids. In this case, it’s recommended to add about 5 cm to the actual measurement when choosing a coat, snowsuit, or pants.

➡️ For example: if a coat is designed for 160 cm, choosing a 165 cm size will give Penny more comfortespecially if she’s wearing several layers underneath (like a warm sweater or fleece).

That extra 5 cm can make a big difference in comfort and freedom of movement!

Why
Choose a Larger Size?

Choosing a slightly larger size isn’t just about growthit’s also a comfort choice:

More freedom of movement – Kids move constantly: they run, climb, kneel, and play. Their clothes should move with them, not against them.

🧣 More comfort with layered clothing – In winter, kids often wear thermal layers or sweaters underneath. A looser fit allows for layering without feeling tight.

🧵 More durability – Kids grow fast! Choosing a slightly larger size helps the clothing last longer, especially if it’s high-quality and made to withstand active play — like Gusti’s outerwear.

📏 How to Measure Your Child Properly

Before ordering, take a few minutes to measure your child:

✏️ HeightFrom the top of the head to the floor.
✏️ ChestAround the fullest part.
✏️ Waist – At the natural waistline.
✏️ HipsAround the widest part of the hips.

Then compare the measurements to our Gusti size guide. If your child falls between two sizes, always choose the larger one. It will ensure better comfort, especially for outerwear like coats, snow pants, or snowsuits.

The
Gusti Difference

  • Fabrics are both flexible and durable.

  • Cuts are designed to allow layering and full range of motion.

Our goal? To make sure your child feels great — no matter their size or how active they are!
